Ron Robin, president of the University of Haifa in Israel, said on Tuesday that an Emirati student has enrolled at the nursing program to become the first female student from the UAE to officially study in an Israeli public university.

Robin, who recently paid a business trip to the UAE, said that the enrollment of UAE students in Israel aims to strengthen the academic ties between the two countries, adding that he expects many students from the Emirates to complete their studies in Israel.

“The love of learning unites the two countries,” he said.

He revealed that he has fostered academic ties with Abu Dhabi University for the past ten years with the aim of developing science and research.

The female student is Sumaya al-Mahabiri, 30. She is currently enrolled at the Haifa University’s Nursing School. She will start her studies next October and is expected to graduate in four years.

Last June, Mansoor bin Shamekh Al Marzooqi, 19, was the first male student to announce he has enrolled in government studies at IDC’s Raphael Recanati International School.

“I chose to come to study in Israel out of a strong desire to contribute to the advancement of peace,” Al Marzooqi said, according to Israel Hayom, the newspaper that published the news.
