First ever passion play comes to Wishaw

Wishaw Churches Together are bringing the town’s first ever passion play to Wishaw this weekend.

The DramaKirk production, which brings the Easter story to life, encourages viewers to get involved in the interactive play.

The performance will take place at South Wishaw Parish Church this Sunday at 6.30pm, with another showing at Dalziel St Andrews Parish Church in Motherwell on Tuesday, April 16. Both are free to attend.

Drama Kirk’s Liz Blackman, who produces and directs the play, said: “Passion plays are a tradition dating back hundreds of years and were historically used as a way to tell the Easter story to whole towns and villages, in a time when many people couldn’t read.

“In modern times, a passion play provides a creative and immediate way for people to re-engage with familiar stories.

“It’s the Gospel on tour; it doesn’t get better than that!”
