First EFL games postponed with Sunderland decision set for Friday morning

The EFL have confirmed that matches taking place on Friday will be postponed as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. That means Burnley's clash with Norwich City in the Championship will no longer take place, while Tranmere Rovers' match with Stockport County is also off.

A decision regarding the games scheduled for the remainder of the weekend will be made tomorrow morning. Sunderland are set to host Millwall on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

An EFL statement released this evening said: "As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II earlier today, the EFL has confirmed that its fixtures scheduled for tomorrow evening (Friday 9 September) – Burnley v Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers v Stockport County - have been postponed.

"A determination regarding the remainder of this weekend’s scheduled fixtures will be made following a review of the official mourning guidance, in addition to further consultation with DCMS and other sports on Friday morning."

The country’s longest reigning monarch died Thursday at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne.
