First Dates Ireland: Single woman says ladies shouldn't be afraid of having babies without a man

A singleton says women worried about their biological clock should not be afraid to have babies without a man.

Robyn Sadlier, 30, who appears on First Dates Ireland tonight, said she decided to go on the hit TV show because all of her friends were coupled up.

And said once you hit your 30s it’s “harder” to find love.

She told the Irish Mirror: “I was the last single friend so it got to the point where my weekends were taken up with dinner parties and trips to Ikea with other friends that were coupled up.

“And I just thought you know what it has come to the point where I might like a bit of that and open other avenues in order to meet someone.

“Because when you hit your 30s it gets a little harder.

“When you send out the text into the girls’ WhatsApp group asking who is doing what on Friday night and get a response that they’re having a date night, you do kind of feel a little deflated.”

And the software consultant said women who are worried about being single and their biological clock should be open to having babies on their own.

She said: “I follow a woman on social media and from what I can see she’s doing it alone and I just thought more power to her.

“I’m not sure if she has had IVF or went about it in a non-traditional way.

“Personally speaking I want children and I’d want to be with Prince Charming for three years in order to have a secure home before having a family.

“But I’m all for women at any point in their life regardless of their professional or personal situation doing it on their own.

“There are avenues for women to do it in non-traditional ways like adoption, IVF and harvesting their eggs.

“And women who are content being independent should go for it.

“A man is lovely to have but I would encourage women to do it on their own too.”

Meanwhile, Robyn, who remained tightlipped over her relationship status has said her date on First Dates Ireland was a great match.

The Dublin woman was matched with 29-year-old Michael from Wexford.

She said: “They didn’t disappoint.

“I said to the guys on the show that I was after a moody man that roams the West in his Aran jumper.

“Fundamentally it really is more so personality, a big heart, big hands and big shoulders.

“I would look for a softie but also someone who is pretty to look at. Who doesn’t want that?”

And to settle her nerves about meeting her dream man, Robyn said she often breaks out speaking in different accents.

She said: “Michael told me he had lived abroad so I tried a South African accent and did my best District Nine impression.

“When I get a little bit nervous they tend to some out and I was a bit apprehensive so there was a couple of little voices that crept out of nowhere.”

First Dates Ireland is on RTE Two tonight at 9.30pm.
