First Dates Ireland is back and the restaurant looks very different due to Covid

Throughout the history of First Dates Ireland, there are certain things that audiences have come to expect.

For example, a bit of flirty and funny conversation is always on the menu, as are those romantic and nervous first steps that daters take with each other.

Throughout the show's previous five seasons, not an awful lot has changed in terms of the format and location, but like so many other aspects of Irish life, Covid has changed the set design of the new episodes.

First Dates Ireland returns to RTE Two for its sixth series on Thursday, February 11 at 9.30pm, but things are going to be a bit different.

To begin with, as per Government guidelines, masks must be worn inside the restaurant and when the daters are around other people.

As the trailer shows, this might create a bit of a problem for any ladies that are wearing makeup!

Upon entering the restaurant, it's traditional for the two people on their first date to sit closely at the bar as they break the ice.

However, the 2m social distancing rule is in place - so there's a bit more space between daters - and that also applies to the dinner table.

However, there's always a chance to have a bit of fun too!

After a few courses involving chats, flirting, nervous giggles and craic, it's time for the big result. Do they fancy each other?

As usual, daters will be asked if they might be interested in seeing the other person again but traditionally, this is always done when they're seated next to each other, in front of the cameras, and with no obstructions between them.

However, a perplex shield will be in place for the moment of truth.

If anyone is lamenting the lack of human touch or closeness, fear not because close contact is allowed with some background daters and participants, provided they were in the same support bubble or household.

As the trailer shows, it appears that a lot of housemates will be dropping by to see how things are going with their mates throughout the season.

While these new changes are very different from what audiences have previously seen, we're certain that the same fun, magic, and romance will be in the air

Perfect timing with Valentine's Day just around the corner!
