First dates' Fred Sirieix 'so proud' as daughter makes it to Olympic diving semi-final

First dates star Fred Sirieix is celebrating after his daughter Andrea made the semi-final of the Women's 10m platform diving competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, 16, is part of Team GB's Olympic diving squad and is due to take part in tomorrow's semi after finishing 10th out of 30 competitors with a pike dive.

The proud dad is hoping his 16-year-old daughter will bring home a medal at the games, but due to Covid restrictions he's having to watch from home as overseas spectators aren't allowed inside the stadiums.

But despite being forced to take a backseat, he posted a video of Andrea's dive on Instagram and wrote: "Well done for making the semi final mon. So proud of you."

Andrea, who was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year for 2020, gave a smashing performance showcasing her pike dive and securing her 10th place.

She now needs to get through the semi-final to land a place in the final - and a chance at winning a medal.

Gushing dad Fred, 49, wrote: "You are living your dream mon We are all with you Enjoy x #olympics #tokyo2020 #diving #platform #10m #goAndrea'

The TV favourite told iNews he's struggling with not being at his daughter's events in person due to the restrictions and found watching the Diving World Cup 'the most nerve-wracking feeling I’ve ever had watching her dive'.

He explained: "Normally because you’re there you feel more a part of it, but watching on TV you feel completely powerless as a parent, it’s very hard.

"Watching my daughter in a competition like the Olympics will be like an outer body experience. I won’t know whether to sit down, stand up or turn around."

The talented young Team GB swimmer - who is the youngest diver in the squad - has made headlines away from her famous TV star father the FINA Diving World Cup back in May.

She secured fourth place in the competition - with her father sharing in her celebration with a family photo.

But Andrea previously told how her friends are still star struck when they realise who she is related to.

"At school, they go ‘oh my gosh’, or they send pictures like ‘Andrea, this is your dad?’", she told The Independent.

But whatever happens at the games she's already had a string of success including being crowned BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2020.
