First Covid death in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district after 4.5 months

INDORE: A 55-year-old highly diabetic woman died of Covid-19 in the district on January 7, the first death due to the infection after four and a half months, officials said.

She was the first one to die from the pandemic virus infection amidst a scare of spike due to the new BF.7 variant, officials said.

The woman was admitted to a private medical college on December 31 with severe respiratory infection (pneumonia) in both lungs. SAIMS head of respiratory medicine department Dr Ankur Agarwal told TOI, "The 55-year-old woman died on Saturday. She was having Covid-19, uncontrolled diabetes, severe pneumonia in both lungs and bacterial infection."

She was admitted with other bacterial infections. Later, on January 2 when doctors decided to check her pandemic virus infection status, she tested positive, officials said.

"She was on bipap for her oxygen requirement. Later, she succumbed to the viral infection. She had XBB variant infection", added Dr Agarwal.

"The district earlier on August 23 reported the last death, when a 76-year-old female died with Covid-19 infection", CMHO Dr BS Saitya said.

She was having hypertension, diabetes, and was admitted for about a week in a private hospital before the death, records showed.

The district in the last three days hasn't reported any new cases from January 3 till Saturday night.

Many people are being tested under protocol for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address in Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) event scheduled on Monday.
