First coronavirus patient admitted to Ayrshire hospital

Crosshouse Hospital is now treating its first case of coronavirus .

Sources say the man was admitted yesterday (Tuesday) and has been isolated inside a ward at the Kilmarnock complex.

Officially NHS Ayrshire and Arran has only registered a single case of the virus .

But it is understood this is a different individual.

The ill man is receiving care within Ward 3B which handles respiratory disease.

His admission follows the setting-up of a drive-thru swabbing system - seen below - at Crosshouse.

(Kilmarnock standard)

Frantic health bosses are trying to shore up care within the hospital, banning all continuous professional development.

They still have not said anything about this new case.

Our source said: "They are training up all existing admin staff to multi-role as call handlers.

"Managers are absolutely desperate and nurses are getting constant texts looking for folk to do extra.

"We are all worried about coping."

NHS Ayrshire and Arran have been asked for comment.
