First College Football Playoff rankings released – where is Georgia football?

The first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2019 season have been released.

The Georgia Bulldogs, sitting at 7-1, checked in at No. 6 in the rankings, the highest of all the one-loss programs.

The full top-ten is:

1. Ohio State

2. LSU

3. Alabama

4. Penn State

5. Clemson

6. Georgia

7. Oregon

8. Utah

9. Oklahoma

10. Florida

To aid in the Bulldogs’ strength of schedule, two former opponents Notre Dame (15) and Florida (10) are in the Top 25.

Meanwhile, upcoming SEC West foe Auburn (11) ranks slightly above the Gators, who beat the Tigers in The Swamp just one month ago.

Comparing Georgia’s accomplishments to the rest of the power-five one-loss programs, it’s not surprising that Georgia is the highest ranked of the bunch, despite an ugly loss to South Carolina in Athens.

Georgia’s lone defeat is worse than its main one-loss competition, Oregon, which fell to Auburn — but the Dawgs improved their chances with two top-25 wins while the Ducks have none.

Other one-loss Power-Five teams include:

Utah, which lost to USC.

Oklahoma, which fell to Kansas State.

And Wake Forest, which lost a thriller to Louisville.

Out of all those teams, Georgia is the only one with two top-25 wins. Actually, every other team has zero.
