First Bus has now released a statement in connection with the crash, which said: "We can confirm that there was an incident in Bristol this afternoon in Westbury Road around 200 yards from the White Tree Roundabout involving one of our buses and a member of the public.

"First and foremost our thoughts are with the individual concerned and we have been working closely with the emergency services at the scene of this incident.

"We will also fully assist the relevant authorities in the investigation that will be undertaken including reviewing our onboard CCTV footage.

"We are not in a position to comment any further at this stage."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the pedestrian involved in the crash was a man in his late 20s or early 30s.

The collision along Westbury Road involved a bus and a pedestrian, and happened at around 3pm, with the road reopening at around 8.45pm.

According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, Westbury Road was initially shut from Clay Pit Road to Parrys Lane, but the road closure was then extended to the junction with Roman Road..

The Love Saves The Day festival - which is expected to be attended by around 50,000 people - is taking place at the Clifton Downs this weekend.
