First Bus is raising its ticket prices across Bristol - this is all you need to know

It will soon cost more money to get a bus in Bristol, as First Bus is upping its prices.

The bus company announced the change in fares for all of its ticket prices less than two weeks ago, and they come into place on Sunday, July 21.

All ticket types will go up in price.

This is how much tickets will cost

  • Adult Bristol zone fares for single journeys will go up from £2 to £2.25
  • Day tickets will rise from £4 to £4.50
  • Weekly tickets will go up from £17 to £18.90.
  •

Monthly and yearly ticket prices will also be affected by the change.

In the announcement on July 10, First Bus said this is the first increase in pre-paid tickets since 2015. But the rise comes eight months after  the firm introduced a 'flat fare' across the city  - which saw some prices go up while others went down.

The increase in price will affect all pre-paid tickets including those bought through the mTicket app, Paypoint, Payzone stores, metrobus iPoints, online and from First’s Travelhub at Bristol Bus Station.

Commercial director at First West of England Rob Pymm said: “The new fares are essential in helping us continue to improve our service across our Bristol network, as we aim to encourage more people to travel with public transport.

“We recently announced  77 new, state-of-the-art buses running on bio-methane  will be coming to the city in the coming months, significantly improving the city’s air quality.

"We are also  investing more buses into Service 2 from September, and we’ll be announcing improvements to other services over the coming months.

“We have worked hard to keep the increases to a minimum and our pre-paid fares still offer the best value and are the best way to speed up the boarding process and keep journey times down.

"We are of course making no changes to our onboard tickets.”
