First Bus Glasgow threatens to axe services over 'criminal and anti-social behaviour'

First Glasgow has threatened to axe several services in the south side of the city due to the level of anti-social behaviour.

The bus company took to social media to call for community leaders to help address the volume of criminal behaviour taking place specifically in the Pollok area.

Bosses have threatened to pull four services in the evening if swift action isn't taken to address the problem.

The warning comes after three teenagers were charged in connection with an alleged fire deliberately started on a double-decker bus stopped on Corkerhill Road on March 2.

The vehicle was left "extensively damaged" and a number of passengers had to be evacuated when the blaze broke out after the group got off.

We previously reported how staff at McDonald's in Silverburn, close to Pollok Bus Station, have been subjected to racist and physical attacks by gangs of youths.

Locals have said they are often 'too scared' to visit the shopping centre at night due to the number of teenagers hanging around.

McDonald's has now implemented a ban on under-16s entering the Silverburn eatery after 6pm without adult supervision.

First Glasgow said: "Regrettably, First Glasgow has sustained an increasing number of arson attacks on buses putting staff and passengers at risk in the Pollok area of the city.

"This cannot continue and First Glasgow is seeking a joint response from community leaders to address the volume of criminal and anti-social behaviour taking place.

"If these attacks continue First Glasgow will be left with no alternative but to withdraw services from the area in the evening, with services 3, 10, 57 and X8 all being impacted.

"We hope that it won't come to this, and so the situation is being monitored before any decisions or plans are made regarding withdrawal. Any updates will be posted out as we receive them."
