First bone-crunching Mortal Kombat trailer brings the blood, guts and fatalities

Finish him!

Two words that have become iconic around the world thanks to the stunning Mortal Kombat series of games but in terms of the best adaptations of video games, Paul W.S. Anderson's 1995 version of the beloved game is arguably the best too.

However, it's time for a new generation of film fans to become accustomed to the bloody mayhem that's set to unfold in Simon McQuoid's new take on the iconic property.

FYI, there's a massive emphasis on the word 'bloody' here!

If you're a fan of Mortal Kombat then don't worry because the fatalities look excellent, the design of the characters is on point, the fights look great, and the gore, well, judge for yourself!

Produced by James Wan (The Conjuring universe films, Aquaman), Mortal Kombat revolves around MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money but unaware of his heritage.

The evil Emperor of Outworld, Shang Tsung, has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, to hunt Cole down.

Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark.

Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

As you can see in the trailer, plenty of the beloved characters from the game feature with the likes of Scorpion, Raiden, Kano, Sonya Blade, Sub Zero, Goro, Jax, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Mileena all making a deadly appearance.

With a cast that includes some of the best talents from the worlds of film, television and martial arts, we have a feeling that this could be one of the funniest cinematic experiences of 2021.

At present, the film is scheduled for release in April in the US but as is the norm, an Irish cinema release date will depend on covid-related restrictions.

Mortal Kombat will be released nationwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.in 2021.
