The initiative has also been launched in Malaysia, Indonesia, Morocco and Bangladesh.

The Makkah Route Initiative is one of the programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. It aims to complete the procedures for the pilgrims from their countries, starting with issuing electronic visas, completion of passport procedures at the airport of the country of departure after verifying the availability of health requirements and transportation and housing arrangements in the Kingdom.

Upon their arrival, pilgrims head directly to buses that transport them to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah.
