First base ump Angel Hernandez overruled by replay three times in four innings

Veteran umpire Angel Hernandez had as rough a time as the Yankees in the first four innings of Monday night's ALDS Game 3 at Yankee Stadium.

Hernandez had three calls at first base overturned by instant replay as the Red Sox built a 10-1 lead.

In the first inning, Hernandez called Didi Gregorius safe on what would have been a bunt single. The Red Sox challenged, and after a replay review, the call was changed to out and Gregorius was given a sacrifice instead.

In the third inning, Hernandez called Gleyber Torres out on a grounder to short. The Yankees challenged and the call was overturned by replay and Torres was awarded an infield single.

In the fourth inning, Hernandez called Luke Voit safe on a single that deflected off pitcher Nathan Eovaldi's glove and was fielded by second baseman Brock Holt. The Red Sox challenged, but that call was upheld.

But Hernandez got the trifecta later in the inning when he called Gregorius out on the completion of a run-scoring double play. The Yankees challenged and Gregorius was ruled safe after a replay review of just 28 seconds.

Hernandez won't have to worry about botching any calls at first base in Tuesday night's Game 4. He is scheduled to be the plate umpire.
