Workers struggling in the heatwave found an unusual way to cool down as temperatures reached almost 40C.
As the UK experienced the hottest day ever recorded yesterday, many came up with creative ways to escape the heat. And bosses at Scott Bros found possibly the best way to cool off during the summer scorcher, Teesside Live reports.
As a 'treat' to staff, the family-run Stockton firm transformed out of its skips into a swimming pool by lining it with a plastic sheet and filling it with cold water. Armed with water pistols, workers were pictured chilling out in the makeshift tub - and even compared it to dip in Benidorm.
Director Peter Scott said: “It certainly beats a hot tub in this kind of weather and for once we don’t mind staff ‘skip-ing’ work a while to cool down. We might even start a new trend among cold water swimmers!”
Neil Crawford, a machine operator at the Stockton skip hire and recycling firm, said: “We’re happy to get on with our jobs despite the heat, but this is a proper treat. It’s almost as good as being by the pool in Benidorm!”

Yesterday, The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for parts of the region and urged people to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water to avoid heatstroke in the unprecedented temperatures.
In Scotland, temperatures reached a sweltering 34.8C in Charterhall in the Scottish Borders, smashing the long-held record set in August 2003 of 32.9C in Greycook.
