Firm seeking Scots to help voice-recognition devices with accents

It seems like Alexa, sat-navs and other speech-operated devices could soon be given a hand in helping to understand the Scots accent.

Speech specialists Way With Words are seeking Scottish-English speakers to help them improve audio-recognition technology.

The firm have put out a call for Scots to do guided, unscripted call recordings.

They are offering money for those who successfully apply with a rate of around 25p a recorded minute.

They say the purpose of the project is to collect voice data in order to assist with developing speech recognition technology.

To apply all you need is headphones with a built-in microphone, a computer or laptop and a stable internet connection.

Free to apply, the whole process will be anonymous with guided, unscripted scenarios used to record the words.

If you are interested, all you have to have to do is send a clear voice recording of yourself (no longer than 60 seconds) containing the following information: name, age, occupation, where you live and what you like most about your town to  project_sco@waywithwords.net

The Way With Words team added that you must include the words “Scottish Recordings” in the subject line in order to be considered.

Here's hoping the project makes Alexa and the like understand Scots a little better.
