- South West Water has pleaded guilty to supplying water unfit for human consumption after a cryptosporidiosis outbreak in Brixham, Devon.
- A total of 143 people were confirmed to have contracted the waterborne disease, which causes sickness and diarrhoea.
- The contamination was caused by a damaged valve in the water network, affecting the Littlehempston Water Supply Zone between 31 March and 1 June 2024.
- Residents in affected areas were instructed to boil their water, and water bottle collection points were set up across the town.
- The prosecution was brought by the Drinking Water Inspectorate; the company's former chief executive, Susan Davy, had previously issued an apology for the incident.
