Firm building driveways out of plastic straws and bottles launches in Liverpool

A firm that builds driveways using recycled plastic bottles, straws and food packaging has launched in Liverpool.

Oltco has begun building its sustainable resin driveways across the city and its surrounding towns and villages in a bid to help combat the global issue of plastic waste already in circulation.

Its main product, Recycle Bound, uses waste from a plastic recycling point, with each square metre consisting of the equivalent of 3,000 straws.

Since the launch of Recycle Bound in January 2019, Cornwall-based Oltco has used the equivalent of over 22m plastic straws in driveways, paths and patios across the UK - and the number continues to grow.

Liverpool businessman Phil Power will run the Liverpool branch of Oltco, working on the city's residential driveways, gardens, balconies and carparks.

Mr Power said: “I’ve always wanted to own a company that does right by everyone involved.

"I want customers to receive products and services of the highest possible quality, combined with employees enjoying complete job satisfaction and a positive work-life balance.

"Being able to combine these priorities with an environmentally friendly product is what inspired me to join the Oltco team.

"Oltco’s innovative and genuine approach, coupled with its mission to ‘do good’ for the community and the environment, was something that echoed my own values.”

Mr Power added that he hopes to deliver high-quality installations as well as give back to the local community, and the planet – all of which have been "integral" to the firm's success over the last 15 years.

Johnny Pearce, co-director at Oltco, added: “Oltco has grown from strength to strength and we are so proud, and excited, to continue this growth with the expansion into Oltco Liverpool with Phil, our powerhouse at the helm of the business."
