Firing 'White House Lackey' Pam Bondi Is Trump's Only Way Out of Epstein Fiasco, Analyst Says

President Donald Trump's only way out of the unending pressures to release the files on Jeffrey Epstein is to fire Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to a political and legal analyst.

President Donald Trump's only way out of the continuing pressures to release the files on Jeffrey Epstein is to fire U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to a political and legal analyst.

Trump may need to "let go" of Bondi, political and legal analyst Jason Willick wrote in a column for the Washington Post, arguing that while Trump may have chosen her for her intense loyalty, that same loyalty is why Americans are refusing to let up on the Epstein files.

"The fact that Bondi is so widely perceived as a White House lackey makes it hard for her to wind down Epstein conspiracies, especially because she stoked them in the first place," Willick wrote.

Trump's heavy focus on loyalty came following the backlash he received over the federal investigation into Russia's interference with the 2016 election.

Despite former Attorney General William P. Barr declaring that Trump's team was not connected to Russia's campaign, Willick wrote that the president wanted officials this term that were "personally loyal — even if that meant abdicating norms of honesty and professional responsibility."

The Trump administration's flip-flop on the Epstein files has not helped their case. In February during an interview with Fox News, Bondi suggested that a list of Epstein's clients and/or associates was "sitting on my desk." But earlier this month, the Department of Justice and FBI released a memo declaring that the sex offender had no such list.

Following the release of the memo, Trump demanded that his followers move on from the Epstein files, and encouraged reporters to do the same. However, after the Wall Street Journal published a report alleging that Trump gave Epstein a drawing of a naked woman in a birthday message, he called for the DOJ to release any approved grand jury testimony.

"It's possible Trump is stuck with Bondi because firing her would only inflame the scandal further. Trump's opponents would certainly try to make hay and allege a cover-up. But the more politically potent claim is that leaving Bondi in place is the cover-up given that she changed her tune on Epstein," Willick wrote.

As he recognized that Trump is unlikely to pick an entirely neutral candidate, Willick suggested that Trump could select a lawyer with a "broader skill set" with no previous experience representing Trump.
