Firing Mark Dantonio ‘not even a discussion’ for Michigan State Athletic Director

In a conference call with the media today, Michigan State’s Athletic Director Bill Beekman said bluntly that MSU has no plans to fire football head coach Mark Dantonio. Michigan State is 4-4 on the season heading into their match-up with Illinois tomorrow.

“It obviously hasn’t been the season we hoped it would be at this point,” Beekman said during a call on Friday. “But we have a lot of football left to play. So we’ll see how the season goes.”

On the prospect of firing Dantonio:

“That is not even a discussion,” Beekman said. “Mark’s our head coach, there’s no question about that.”

No surprise for me here. Dantonio has been extremely consistent in his time at MSU. I think, after the highs he has had, winning Big Ten Championships, making the College Football Playoff, winning the Rose Bowl, you need to give Dantonio the chance to turn things around. It would be a bad look if they planned to do anything other than that, in my humble opinion.
