Firing Blancos! Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema admits he must ‘score more goals’ after ending drought

Karim Benzema got the ball rolling for Real Madrid on Tuesday night, with his strike after 11 minutes setting them on their way to a 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen .

It ended a run of eight games without a goal for the Frenchman, who had not found the net since Real’s 4-1 victory over Leganes on September 1.

Speaking to AS he said: "Tired? No. I know I have to make more goals."

"I have it in my head and it gives me a lot of motivation to do it."

Benzema’s baron run came at a time when the rest of the Real Madrid team were struggling for goals.

Before Tuesday night’s win, Los Blancos had literally been firing blancos – with just five goals converted across those eight games.

Real would only pick up two victories along the way as the pressure mounted on boss Julen Lopetegui.

The club confirmed that the former Spain coach would be in charge for Sunday's El Clasico with Barcelona – though the consensus is that decision is simply delaying the inevitable.

Benzema does not see it that way, though, and was quick to offer support to his under fire boss.

"We have a lot of confidence in the coach. We are with him. It is not always the coach's fault, it is also the players' fault," he said.

"He puts the players [on] and we have to do more in the field. He's a good coach.

"Like I said, he knows he has the confidence of us, we're going to continue working on things to win."
