Fireworks starting much earlier this year and terrifying pets say dog owners

Worried dog owners say fireworks are starting much earlier this year and terrifying pets.

Dogs Trust show an alarming spike in calls as many people report them being set off early.

And getting your dog's daily routine done early in the day and having things to occupy their attention, especially when indoors, are the best ways to keep their thoughts off the noise.

Head of operations Karla Dunne said: “Halloween can be terrifying for some dogs, so we recommend that your dog is well exercised before dark and is fed and given a toilet break before the fireworks begin.

“Most importantly, dogs should be indoors with lots of dog friendly activities to keep them occupied.

“Some dogs like to hide, so please allow them to stay where they feel safest and make it as cosy as possible, even if it’s something as simple as draping a duvet over the area.”
