Fireworks set off at police by 100-strong Covidiot crowd in Dundee

A 100-strong group of Halloween Covidiots set off fireworks aimed at police trying to break up the crowd in Dundee.

Officers raced to Beauly Square, in the Kirkton area of the city, when the alarm was raised at around 7.05pm on Saturday October 31.

They were met with a squad of around 100 young revellers who set off fireworks at officers and tried to intimidate them.

Extra crews and 'public order trained officers' were drafted in to help disperse the thugs, believed to mostly be in their late teens and early twenties.

A probe in underway to identify all those involved in the 'completely unacceptable disturbance'.

Police are appealing for information and for witnesses to come forward.

Chief Inspector David Mcintosh, Local Area Commander for Dundee said:  “Luckily no one was injured during this disorder, however this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.

“Our main priority at the time was ensuring the safety of the public and our officers, however enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved in this disturbance and take the appropriate action.

“Officers are carrying out additional patrols in the area to provide public reassurance.

“If you have any information that will assist our ongoing enquiry, please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 3383 of 31 October.”
