Fireworks set off at Celtic Park during silence for Prince Philip as cops launch probe

Police Scotland has launched an investigation after fireworks were set off outside Celtic Park during a tribute to Prince Philip.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on Friday, aged 99, and, following his death, the SPFL announced players and officials would observe a silence in his honour.

But, while players from Celtic and Livingston were crowded round the centre circle, observing the silence, several fireworks were set off outside the ground.

Video footage of the incident shared online shows a masked gang setting off pyrotechnics outside of the stadium.

The group, dressed in black hoodies, appear to be in a graveyard as they set the fireworks off.

Celtic went on to win the match 6-0, thanks to goals from James Forrest, David Turnbull, Ryan Christie, a Mohamed Elyounoussi double and a Jack Fitzwater own goal.

And it has now been confirmed that officers are looking into the circumstances of the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are investigating the misuse of fireworks outside Celtic Park stadium on Saturday, 10 April, 2021.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
