A fireworks display was held in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture, at the foot of Mt. Fuji, with about 2,000 fireworks lighting up the night sky.
The event was initially scheduled to be held at a campsite in the city, allowing people to stay overnight and watch the fireworks. This was canceled due to the new coronavirus outbreak, but an executive committee of fireworks experts conducted a crowdfunding campaign to support the fireworks industry.
They collected 7.34 million yen from 440 people, exceeding the target of 4 million yen.
On Sunday, supporters were invited to the venue and watched fireworks sitting on sheets on the grass.
"[This event] is filled with the emotions of people who love fireworks. We must pass on the culture of fireworks," a member of the committee said.
