Firework set off inside post box - police launch investigation

A firework was let off inside a post box, prompting a police appeal.

The post box, as well as some of the mail, was left badly damaged by the incident, which took place in Seymour Road just before midnight on Saturday (July 11).

The remains of a firework were found inside the box.

Police are investigating it as an act of criminal damage.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has now appealed for any witnesses to get in touch.

A police spokesperson said: "We’re investigating criminal damage caused to a post box in Seymour Road, Staple Hill, at just before midnight on Saturday, July 11. 

"The remains of a firework were found inside the post box, which was badly damaged. We have recovered all the mail from the scene, although some of it is also damaged.

"If you saw any part of this incident and haven’t spoken with the police, or know who was responsible, please call us on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5220153518."
