Firewater saved for permanent closure thanks to £20k donations from supporters

Firewater is preparing to reopen after generous supporters helped raised £20,000 to secure its future.

The Sauchiehall Street venue was facing permanent closure due to the financial impact of two coronavirus lockdowns.

Hundreds of generous Glaswegians donated to a fundraising page asking for cash to keep their 40 staff in work and help the venue see in its 20th year. The campaign will be wrapped up this afternoon with an impressive £20,901 raised since the beginning of the month.

The bar and nightclub is now preparing to reopen within the next three weeks as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

Bosses are hoping to welcome customers back by May 17 when hospitality venues will be able to reopen until 10.30pm indoors with alcohol permitted with two-hour slots.

As well as being able to offer limited indoor seating, Firewater has been granted permission for outdoor seating which they'll be using to their advantage over the coming months.

We can't wait to get back on that dancefloor...
