Firestarters terrorise Coatbridge locals as yobs spark late night bonfire

A group of youths have been caught on camera stoking a huge bonfire “dangerously close” to homes in Coatbridge.

Terrified Kirkwood residents feared for their safety last night as the blaze raged behind Cumberland Place.

A local woman filmed the scene from her window as the teens flouted lockdown to congregate beside the massive fire.

She said her sick husband was left "choking" on the fumes after trying to sleep with the window open.

In the clip, the woman's garden is seen lit with an orange glow as smoke billows out from the area.

Around nine youths can be seen loitering near the blaze and throwing objects onto the fire.

It is understood fire crews were called to attend the scene.

The footage prompted concern from social media users.

One woman said: “God that is shocking."

Another added: "It's so dangerously close to the houses.”

And one person wrote: “This is terrible.”

Fire Scotland has been approached for comment.
