Firefighters worked through the night to contain a fire at a derelict building on Duke Street.
Emergency services were called to the blaze within the two-storey building around 8.40pm on Thursday.
The initial fire took hold a quantity of rubbish and tyres before spreading to the nearby building.
Locals reported hearing a loud blast, caused by a gas cylinder hidden among the tyres and waste.
More 30 firefighters battled the fire at its height and crews worked through the night to bring it under control.
There were no reported casualties.
Four fire appliances remained on the scene into Friday to make the area safe.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Area Commander Roddie Keith, said: “This has undoubtedly been a technically challenging and protracted incident, and crews have worked through difficult conditions to contain the fire and prevent further damage or fire spread.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Operations Control, our firefighters and our partners for working to keep the community safe throughout this ongoing incident.”
