Firefighters tackling gorse fire into the night on outskirts of Dublin

Fire crews are still beating back a fierce gorse fire outside Dublin.

High temperatures and winds have helped spread the featherbeds blaze as Firefighters from Rathfarnham Station use backpack sprayers and gorse beaters to extinguish the fire.

Dublin Fire Brigade Tweeted: "A strong breeze is driving the fire across the heather. A fire warning expired today but care is still needed in our green areas."

Meanwhile the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine have issued a Status Orange, High Forest Fire Risk Warning in forestry areas which remains in place until Monday July 26 July.

Arising from continued high temperatures and dry weather a high fire risk is deemed to exist in all areas where hazardous fuels such as dead grasses and shrub fuels such as heather and gorse exist.

The Ministry say the situation can be expected to persist into next week, pending rainfall.
