Firefighters tackle serious house fire in Tameside

The occupants of a house escaped unharmed as it went up in flames this afternoon.

Six fire engines were scrambled to the house in Hollingworth, Tameside, on Saturday afternoon.

All the occupants of the property were escorted to safety, according to a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

It is believed they are unharmed.

Firefighters remain at the scene tonight and people have been urged to avoid the area.

Pictures from the scene showed firefighters squirting water onto the mid-terrace home on Pinters Fold as black smoke billowed from the property.

Firefighters wearing breathing gear went into the building.

A statement from GMFRS said: "At 14:57 hours on the 19th of September 2020 we were called to an incident on Printers Fold in Hollingworth.

"Five fire engines from Hyde, Stalybridge, Ashton-under-Lyne, Stockport and Glossop and a command support unit from Atherton were quickly in attendance at the incident involving a fire in a mid-terraced property.

"Our firefighters used an aerial ladder platform, a drone, six breathing apparatus, three hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters remain at the scene of this incident. We ask that people avoid the area at this time.”
