FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a major blaze near an airfield as locals have been told to keep their windows and doors closed due to a large plume of smoke.
Emergency services were called to a large farm building on Fearn Airfield Road, Easter Ross, at around 9.20am on Wednesday, following reports of a fire breaking out.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent six appliances and specialist resources to the scene.
Images shared online showed flames engulfing the farm building next to the former naval airbase.
Residents nearby have been told by the emergency services to keep their windows and doors closed due to a large plume of smoke.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with a fire affecting a large farm building on Fearn Airfield Road, Easter Ross.
“Those living in the area were asked to keep their windows and doors closed due to a large plume of smoke.
“Six fire appliances and specialist resources are currently at the scene.”
