Firefighters tackle late night car blaze on Kingston Bridge

Fire crews tackled a dramatic late night car blaze on the Kingston Bridge last night.

Photos of the incident, which occurred just before midnight, show a car in flames on the bridge, with fire crews at the scene.

Police have confirmed that they attended alongside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service following reports of a vehicle on fire on the off-ramp of the bridge.

With the vehicle subsequently removed around 1:30am.

There are no reports of any injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 11:40pm on Thursday 23 April 2020 police were made aware of a vehicle on fire on the off ramp at the Kingston Bridge. 

"Officers assisted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the vehicle was removed around 1:30am on Friday morning."

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 11.36pm on Thursday, April 23 to reports of a vehicle on fire close to Junction 18 of the M8 motorway in Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished the flames.

“There were no reported casualties.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
