Firefighters tackle flames following crash on busy main road

Firefighters raced to the scene when a car set on fire following a crash on a main road in Manchester.

Emergency crews were called following reports of a traffic collision involving two vehicles on Middleton Road, in Crumpsall, in the early hours of Thursday (July 15).

A crew from Blackley fire station attended and put out the fire at around 2.20am.

Firefighters used hose reels to extinguish flames at one vehicle.

The road was closed off at the junction with Victoria Avenue for around an hour.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 2.20am on Thursday 15 July, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Middleton Road, Manchester.

“One fire engine from Blackley fire station arrived quickly at the scene.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish one vehicle.

“GMFRS crews were on scene for about an hour.”
