Firefighters tackle blaze which started in bathroom of a flat in New Islington

Firefighters were called to a flat in New Islington after a blaze started in a bathroom.

Crews were called to Woodward Street just after 7pm on Wednesday evening.

The blaze appeared to have started in a flat in Woodward Court which is council-run homeless acommodation.

A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said it started in the bathroom of a third floor flat.

Nobody is believed to have been injured in the blaze.

The fire has now been extinguished and firefighters have left the scene.

In a statement, the GMFRS spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.07pm today to Woodward Street.

"Five fire engines attended as well as a turntable ladder.

"The fire started in a flat on the third floor and appeared to have started in the bathroom.

"We have now left the scene."
