Firefighters tackle blaze at derelict house in Stockport

Firefighters battled a blaze at a derelict house in Stockport.

Crews were called to the house, attached to a former builders yard, on Gorton Road, in Reddish.

A large plume of smoke could be seen billowing the building across the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The fire involved the first floor of the detached building.

Large numbers of fire engines and police vehicles could be seen outside the property.

Firefighters arrived to the scene at around 6.15am and spent more than two hours tackling the flames.

Nobody was in the property at the time.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 6.13am on April 28, 2020, three fire engines from Gorton and Whitehill fire stations, and the turntable ladder from Manchester Central, with a supporting fire engine from Stockport attended a domestic premises on Gorton Road, North Reddish.

"On arrival the fire service dealt with a fire involving the first floor of the large detached property.

"Six breathing apparatus, three hose reels, a thermal imaging camera, breaking in gear and lighting were used.

"Crews remained in attendance for approximately two hours and 15 minutes."
