Firefighters tackle blaze at a house under renovation in Bury

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a house in Bury.

Crews were called to the domestic property on Bury Road, in Radcliffe, at around 4.30am this morning (Sunday, January 12).

The building is currently empty and is undergoing renovation, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

At its peak, four fire engines and two aerial appliances attended at the scene.

Firefighters tackled the blaze from above using an aerial appliance and a hydraulic platform.

The fire has been brought under control and the incident has now been scaled back.

Two fire engines and an aerial appliance remain at the scene this morning.

People living nearby are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

In a statement, GMFRS said: "Firefighters are working hard to tackle a blaze on Bury Road in Radcliffe this morning (Sunday 12 January 2020).

"Crews were called at 4:37am to a fire involving the roof of an empty detached domestic property which is under renovation.

"At its peak, four fire engines and two aerial appliances were attendance, with firefighters tackling the blaze from above using an aerial appliance and a hydraulic platform.

"Operations have now scaled back, with two fire engines and an aerial appliance currently at the scene.

"Local residents are being asked to keep their windows and doors shut."
