Firefighters tackle blaze at a block of flats in Rochdale

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a block of flats in Rochdale last night.

They were called to flats near Freehold Street following a fire in a second floor apartment.

A number of occupants were evacuated but it is believed no-one was hurt during the drama.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two fire engines were scrambled to the three-storey building at 8.39pm yesterday (Friday).

A hose-reel was used to extinguish the blaze.

Rochdale Council officials were also called.

The fire service spokesman said: "At 8.39pm we were called to reports of a fire on the second floor of a three-storey block of flats.

Two fire engines were sent (ASP)

"Fire engines from Rochdale and Littleborough attended and quickly brought the fire under control. We handed the scene back to Rochdale Council."

He confirmed there were no reports of any injuries.
