Firefighters tackle Ayrshire town centre blaze

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a former pub in Irvine this afternoon.

Four fire engines were sent to the former Ruby Tuesday’s boozer, in Bridgegate.

All roads and the shopping centre remain open, however, barriers have been put up around the derelict pub.

One eye witness said: "You can smell the smoke really strongly."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.48pm on Monday, January 27, to reports of a fire within a derelict building in Irvine.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances to the town’s Bridgegate, where crews extinguished a small fire at 3.22pm within a derelict property.

“Firefighters left the scene after making the area safe.

 “There were no casualties.”
