Firefighters still tackling blaze at St Stephen's School after 12 hours at scene

Fire crews continue to tackle a huge blaze at a primary school in Glasgow North, 12 hours after they were first called to the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were alerted to the "well developed" fire at St Stephen's Primary School in Sighthill at around 7pm yesterday.

A spokeswoman for the service confirmed to Glasgow Live that crews remained at the scene and that the fire had not yet been extinguished.

Video footage from the scene last night shows the extent of the blaze, with flames and smoke billowing from the building on Pinkston Road.

The fire has broken out in the derelict school, and not at the nearby new-build development.

In a statement last night, the fire service said: "We are currently in attendance at a building fire on Pinkston Drive, Glasgow.

"Six appliances were mobilised to the scene after the alarm was raised at 7.03pm, and crews continue to tackle a well-developed fire within a derelict building."
