Firefighters were still at the scene of a major hotel fire in Wirral the day after a blaze tore through the building.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called out to the Grade II listed Thornton Manor hote l at around 9pm last night (Saturday) after a blaze spread from the boilers to the roof.
Eight engines were sent to the scene near the village Thornton Hough and crews used an aerial appliance.

Mersey Fire and Rescue were assisted by colleagues from Cheshire Fire. Police and ambulance also attended.
Emergency services were initially called following a fire in the hotel's boiler room which was put out before fire crews arrived on the scene.
But it then emerged that the fire had spread to the roof space which required the efforts of fire crews from eight engines as well as a service drone.
Wedding DJ Matthew Tolley, who was working at the hotel last nigh,t described dramatic scenes as the guests were 'evacuated' from the Elizabethan-style building.
At 4pm today crews were still at the scene of what was described as a 'substantial fire.'
A spokesman for the fire service said: "Our crews remain at the scene of this substantial fire to a very complex building.
"Firefighters are working around the clock with relief crews continuing our efforts to bring this incident to close.
"We have met with the owners of the property and provided an update following the latest multi agency meeting at scene. The following firefighting activities are ongoing."
The spokesman said that crews were using specialist equipment to check for hotspots in the roof and other areas of the building.
