Firefighters still at scene of devastating Birkenhead nightclub fire

Multiple fire crews are still at the scene of a devastating fire at a former nightclub in Birkenhead.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Conway Street at 9.41pm on Wednesday and the huge fire caused so much smoke to billow  out of the building that it could be seen across Merseyside .

On Thursday morning, Merseyside Fire and Rescue confirmed they were still working to control hot spots in the building, which used to be the Marbella Mambo nightclub and Venue cinema.

Two fire engines and the aerial appliance remain at the scene for damping down and searching for hot spots but there are no firefighters within the building anymore, said the fire service.
