Firefighters save home from 'major damage' after loft fire

Fire crews were called to a blaze in a North Somerset home on Tuesday night (May 5).

Firefighters from Winscombe and Blagdon fire stations were called to the property in Blackmoor Close, Langford shortly after 11.30pm.

On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the loft of the building and used two high pressure hose reels to contain the fire.

Pictures taken from the scene show extensive damage to the loft but major damage to the property was avoided thanks to the firefighters' efforts.

Avon Fire and Rescue has confirmed the cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Crews from Winscombe and Blagdon fire stations were mobilised to reports of a fire.

"On arrival, firefighters found a fire in the loft of the residential property.

"Crews used four breathing apparatus for safety and two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire.

"They also used two thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots.

"The cause is thought to be accidental."

Winscombe fire station added on Twitter: "Today we have attended a fire in the loft of a residential property in Langford alongside @AFRSBlagdon.

"Four breathing apparatus and two house reel jets were used.

"Thankfully we managed to save the property from major damage and the fire was confined to the loft."
