Firefighters rush to Motherwell to tackle generator blaze

Firefighters rushed to the scene of a blaze at Motherwell Bridgeworks last night (Tuesday).

Residents living nearby reported scenes of thick black smoke filling the sky surrounding the North Motherwell area at around 7pm.

Fire crews attended on site and extinguished a fire which affected a number of mobile generators.

One resident told Lanarkshire Live: "I could hear a few bangs at one point."

The fire was quickly brought under control.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 7.39pm on Tuesday to reports of a fire outside a building at Logans Road, Motherwell.

“We mobilised two appliances to the scene to extinguish a fire affecting a number of mobile generators.

“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe. There were no reported casualties.”
