Firefighters rush to classroom fire at Oasis Academy Brislington

Firefighters were called to a Bristol secondary school after a small fire started in a classroom.

Two fire crews from Avon Fire and Rescue were called to a ground floor design and technology classroom at Oasis Academy Brislington after the schools sprinklers were triggered.

A spokesperson for the fire service said that crews attended the school at 3.15pm after a piece of equipment caught fire in the design and technology classroom.

The fire was extinguished using a fire extinguisher and was out by the time the crews arrived.

Two firefighters entered the room wearing breathing apparatus and isolated the electrics in the room.

Pupils at the school were evacuated during the incident as a precaution.

A spokesperson from Multi Academy Trust: Oasis Community Learning said: "During preparation for our open evening event, a piece of equipment in the technology department caught fire whilst being operated by one of our technicians.

"It was quickly and safely extinguished.  There were no students present."
