Firefighters reunite dog with owners on holiday in Northumberland after she ran away

A dog has been reunited with her worried owners after running away while on holiday in Northumberland.

Sky, an 11-year-old staffy, is believed to have been spooked by something while outside late on Tuesday evening.

She ran away from where she was staying leaving her panicked owners to try and track her down.

Thankfully, Sky was spotted wandering the streets in Blyth by the West Hartford White Watch crew from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service who assumed she was a stray.

The crew were on their way back from dealing with a vehicle fire in the early hours when they spotted her and stopped to get her.

They then realised she was wearing a collar so put her in the fire engine and took her back to the station where the Northumberland County Council's dog warden was called.

Sky was checked over and it was discovered she was chipped so she was soon reunited with her frantic owners.

Her owner said he was "eternally grateful to Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service for finding Sky and keeping her safe".

Firefighter Darren Rutter, who found Sky, said: "We had just finished dealing with a small fire when we came across her - so the natural and kind thing was to bring her back with us in case she came to any danger.

"I'm happy that she is now back safe and well with her owners."
