Firefighters return to Gleniffer Braes as tyres set alight again

Firefighters were forced to return to Gleniffer Braes in the early hours of the morning after the tyres were set alight again.

Emergency services rushed to the busy Paisley beauty spot yesterday afternoon after a number of calls from the the public.

Three appliances battled with the fire of 200 tyres from 3.30pm, before extinguishing the flames around 8.30pm.

But firefighters had to return to the scene this morning to tackle the flames yet again to ensure it was safe for th public.

The Braes car park "jam packed" as emergency services arrived at the scene yesterday.

One onlooker said: "It was absolutely jam packed with cars and there were about 50 people all standing and watching the fire."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed firefighters returned to ensure the area was safe this morning.

He said: "The initial fire was extinguished and firefighters left the scene around 8.30pm.

"However, the fire was later lit again and one appliance had to return to the scene as the conditions were deemed dangerous underfoot.

"The area was further dampened down and they left the areas around 6.30am this morning."
