Firefighters rescue two people trapped in car after 'serious' crash on M1 at J25 involving lorry

Firefighters were at the scene of a serious crash involving two cars and a lorry which has closed part of the M1.

Nottinghamshire Police have said emergency services were dealing with what are believed to be "serious injuries".

The crash happened at around noon on the M1 northbound between Junction 24 and Junction 25 on Friday.

The incident caused nearly seven miles of tailbacks. Trapped traffic was held while emergency services attended.

This traffic has now been released via a diversion, and the motorway has fully reopened between the two junctions.

Pictures from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service show fire crews appearing to remove someone from one of the cars involved.

A statement from Nottinghamshire Police said: "The M1 has been closed due to a road traffic collision involving a lorry and two cars.
