Firefighters rescue swan who was 'defying quarantine' on M5

Firefighters were called out to a loose swan who was 'defying quarantine' on the M5.

Avon Fire and Rescue crews from Weston-super-Mare were sent to the motorway yesterday (March 30) along with other agencies to rescue the bird.

On Twitter, a spokesperson for the fire service said the rescue was 'an M5 incident with a difference'.

The Twitter post reads: "This lad was defying quarantine laws swanning around the M5 before getting trapped in brambles.

"He is now safely in the hands of the amazing Secret World Wildlife.

"Thanks to Highways England and Secret World for your swift responses."

The motorways has been unusually quiet during the past two weeks as the country remains in lockdown due to the coronavirus crisis.

Bristol saw the biggest rise in coronavirus cases in 24 hours, according to Public Health England figures published last night (March 30).

It followed national news of a further 180 deaths due to the virus in the country.
